CHEAP HOUSING NEEDED IMMEDIATELY (by Wed. 8/22)
Denver, CO • 08/21/2007
Sorry for the shouting, but I'm getting kind of desperate.
I need any size apartment, preferably in Aurora because that's where I work. I'd like the rent to be no more than $450 - less is better. I have a retail job and do a little work online; I'm currently making about $1000/month. The place I'm in is way too much - $650 - and as a result I'm behind on the rent. I'm only about a half month behind, but that was enough for this complex to get a lawyer involved. If I don't come up with about $600 (there are legal fees now in addition to the rent) by the court date on Friday, or move out this week, I've been told I'll be evicted next week.
I have maybe $70 I could put into a security deposit if I divert it from something else that right now is a lower priority. I have a friend who's willing to lend me money for either a deposit or rent, but I'm not sure how much; she works with me, so I doubt it's a lot of money. And I have a paycheck coming on Friday by direct deposit which I estimate should be about $400 - not enough to cover what I owe this place. But maybe enough to get me into somewhere else?
I've looked into government assistance in both Denver (where I now live) and Aurora; there's nothing that I qualify for, and if this eviction goes through it will make things harder. What I'd like to do is get out of where I am now by Wednesday of this week, then clean this place and turn in the keys on Thursday so the lawyer won't have to go to court on Friday. According to a helpful person I talked to at the housing authority, that's the best I can do for this situation. I admit I shouldn't have let it go this far, but - well, this is where I am now.
Does anyone have any ideas for a complex/private landlord that will take someone in this situation? I don't make much and I won't pass a credit check, but if I can get the rent low enough I can afford it. And I'm (normally!) very responsible; June was the first time in 32 years of renting that I've been late.
I'm quiet, I don't smoke or drink, I don't play loud music, I don't watch TV, and I don't have any pets. And I don't want or need a long lease - month to month would be fine (I just found out some places actually have those.) I just don't want to get in another of those special deals which are really "cheap rent to get you in the door, then after the lease is up we raise it $150" - which is what got me into trouble here. I thought I'd be able to find better employment before now. I've been looking and actually had some interviews, but it's still a slow process.
I'm open to any suggestions - as long as they're not illegal or immoral. And if you have none, I'll accept prayers.
I have to work today, but I'll be back online tonight and probably tomorrow morning to check messages. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
