JOB DESCRIPTION





The Avenue of Hope Project AmeriCorps member will assist homeless/transient families through Colfax Community Network’s Mom & Tots Group. The Mom & Tots Group aims to create a safe place where toddlers can come to learn and grow, to feel rooted and nurtured. In addition, the mom’s will develop self-sufficiency through activities ranging from self-esteem building to resume building & job training. The AmeriCorps volunteer will be responsible for:



-Work with motel residents and managers in identifying families with toddlers who reside in the East Colfax motels. Once identified, the AmeriCorps volunteer will encourage the families to enroll in the Mom & Tots group to current residents.

-Volunteers will assess the personal needs of individual mother’s and toddlers involved in the group and identify appropriate resources/activities to meet those needs when possible.

-Volunteers will work individually and in a small group setting with the mother’s to enhance self-esteem, job skills and self-sufficiency.

-Volunteers will work with the Children’s Program Director and Executive Director in developing and implementing creative learning experiences for the toddlers, in addition,





The Mom & Tots Group AmeriCorps member will serve 300 hours or approximately 4 hours per week working directly with the Mom & Tots Group, in addition, 2 hours for prep for weekly group meeting, to maintain the highest quality programming possible for the homeless and transient families we serve. The AmeriCorps member will work at the CCN site and will be responsible for securing his/her living situation.



1. Education Award: Every Member who successfully completes requirements, including required service hours is eligible to receive an education award to pay college tuition, vocational education fees or to pay existing student loans. The 300-hour position will receive an educational award of $1,000.
