ESL Instructor/Part-time community organizer
Denver, CO • 08/23/2007
ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is one of the nation’s largest and most successful networks of community organizations, with over 350,000 low and moderate-income members organized into more than 1,200 neighborhood chapters in 104 cities across the country. Begun by a group of welfare mothers in Arkansas in 1970, for over 37 years ACORN has been building solidly rooted and powerful community organizations that are committed to social and economic justice. Our members take action and win victories on thousands of issues of concern to them, through direct action, negotiation, legislative advocacy, and voter participation. Fundamentally, ACORN’s goal is to ensure that low- and moderate-income families have the power to act effectively on our own behalf in the struggle to build a more progressive America.
